The Free Nail Whitening Hack

I have always had an issue with my nails. I started applying nail polish 10 to 15 years ago and have done so religiously on a weekly basis. I do my best to apply a good base coat to protect my nails but somehow they seemed to turn yellow after each polish application and removal. My panic increased with each time, I knew I had to let my nails breathe but I would be so embarrassed by their yellowish tint that I’d apply another color to hide the shame, and so the vicious cycle continued. Any regular manicured gal will agree that this is the worst situation! I tried so many products, cosmetic and pharmaceutical; they can be quite pricey but to no avail. They only give the illusion of whiter nails but do little to fix the problem. read more

DIY French Tip Nails

French tip nails are not impossible to do at home, and they are easier than they seem. On Sunday morning while chilling at home, I decided to give it a try. I have done this type of manicure before on my own but never with the Sally Hansen kit I had bought in the summer.

First I applied a base coat which is the hardener I always apply before painting my nails.

Next I used the White Tip across the tip of my nails in an arch form without the use of tape. I applied it twice before using the Sheer Romance also twice. read more

My Nail Polish Picks

The nail polish brand I’m obsessed with this season is Sally Hansen. Out of all the brands I find this one to have the most calm colors. Their shades are not too in your face, but more discretely charming. Take a look at my newest collection, along with the french manicure kit I thought I would try. I also use their nail hardener series as a base coat. This nail polish tends to last a week, it stays on fairly impeccable. I have tried 4 out of the 7 colors so far. Salon Nails at Home

Why is it that when we get our nails done at the salon, they last for a week, but when we do them at home they chip within a couple of days?

The secret isn’t the nail polish brand or quality. Its the top coat.

If you are anything like me and have a busy lifestyle, then you can relate to the hassle of going to a salon. For starters, booking an appointment isn’t easy, especially if you work full time,  post 5 o’clock is rarely available unless you reserve over a week in advance. If you aren’t certain of your schedule, committing to an appointment that early isn’t guaranteed. A lot of times the chit-chat at the salons gets shallow and gossipy, and if you want to keep to yourself and just get your nails done and be out, you will feel like an outsider and a little bothered. Or maybe you want to paint your nails from the comfort of your own home, in front of the TV with your pjs on, perhaps during the night. Mind you I am not a salon hater, I do frequent them but there are times when I just rather be a lazy couch potato. Even if you are a regular at the salon, keep a top coat of your choice in your beauty drawer, you never know when you might need it. read more

Spring 2014 Nail Trends

The color palettes for Spring nails are an extreme of color versus nude, yet none of which aren’t daring. I have compiled the latest trends in nail color from the runways, and organized them into 5 main categories for you to be inspired and choose from.

Lets start with the color blue, the trend ranges anywhere from baby blue to midnight blue and everything in between. The lighter shades are very feminine and are easy to pull off, however the darker shades similar to the ones trending this past fall are quite bold, if you like to deliver a shock factor they will work for you. read more
