Metropole is a brassserie in Downtown Beirut, in a calm upscale neighborhood. On a given Sunday noon we chose to give it a try and see what this always packed restaurant is all about.
We ordered Poulet Grille A L’Estragon for 34,500 L.L. The chicken was good but needed more sauce for taste. The four pieces of potato, other than the fact that they were a bit small for this kind of dish, were under-cooked from their center. I would say this is an average tasting plate and not very filling. Thumbs up for the presentation though.
Next the Filet Steak for 64,000 L.L. The steak was very tasty and can compete with that of a 5 star hotel. The sides however, could have been a bit more refined including a variety of veggies.
For dessert we ordered the Souffle To Share for 16,500 L.L. It was the perfect end to our lunch, and indeed its a portion that can be shared. Inside the cake was heavenly melting chocolate, and the cake in itself was perfection. I should add that this is what vanilla ice cream should taste like!
Our usual soft drink were 5,500 L.L. each.
Final verdict: I recommend Metropole for its good food and chill ambiance, if you must order the chicken ask for extra sauce, and don’t miss out on the souffle!
