My usual visits to Eau De Vie at the Phoenicia Intercontinental involve an a la carte menu of my choice, namely a steak. However, the wedding reception I attended last weekend was a pleasant culinary surprise. It was a set menu of 3 courses, with a dessert buffet, and coffee and tea.
The starter was ‘Duo of salmon and salad of baby vegetables charcoal grilled, walnuts and goat cheese’.
I’m not a big fan of seafood besides your basic fish, but judging by the vibrant taste of the goat cheese on the crispy pastry, and the freshness of the salad and its sauce, I gave the shrimp a try and it was worth it.
Next came “Mushroom cannelloni, parmesan crisp and porcini sauce’.
This wasn’t the average cannelloni, I couldn’t quite dissect all what was inside but it was delicious, so was the mushroom sauce. Heaven.
The main course was ‘Roasted seabass, shellfish and ground herbs mashed potato, braised fennel and lemon butter sauce’.
The portion was generous to say the least, the fish was smooth and perfectly cooked, and the top layer added a sneaky no-diet flavor to it. I ate the veggies down to the last pea, and the mashed potato had a fine taste, with no hint of the under cooked smell most buttered food has.
Finally, the dessert buffet was meticulously arranged and inviting to the eye.
I had a few bites of cheesecake, apple pie, and a few chef specialties. There was an ice cream station with a mountain of scoops in 3 large bowls of raspberry, mango and lemon, with your choice of chocolate chips, coconut, and cereal flakes to add on your ice cream.
This is one seated dinner that will leave you feeling satisfied visually and physically in the classiest ambiance.
Diet and detox are currently in progress!
In case you are wondering what I wore to this event, if you follow my Instagram you would most likely have seen my outfit, where I state that I am mixing diamonds with chunky bracelets to go with my structured teal dress. There is no reason funky can’t be classy.
