Moschino McDonald’s Fashion Line

Its been a few months since Moschino launched their McDonald’s fashion line. It was instantly all over blogs and social media, and we saw it on the streets.

But did anyone ever take the time to notice how ridiculous this collection is? Its a mockery of fashion and of fast food chains and their employees, and in no way is it pop art. Have we become so brain-washed by the media that we automatically accept the trends being shoved down our throats? I am not even gonna pretend that Moschino’s idea is in the least bit creative or smart. It is a heinous collection. I mean seriously, walking around in a McDonald’s logo dress, handbag and french fries cell phone case? Which by the way retail abroad for around $935, $1265 and $85 respectively. Are you willing to shell out that much for something that isn’t a classic item? Out of the population, how many of the women (or men) are into fashion? And how many of those are avid trend followers? You get my point, and the other side of the demographic chart will probably mock what they see. Moschino might as well have used the Michelin man since its apparently an M thing. read more

D.I.Y. Body Scrub

If you don’t have a store bought body scrub, or simply want to try a natural one using household ingredients, it is easier than you think.

What you need is the following:

1 ripe banana

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix the ingredients in a bowl with a fork, but don’t allow them to lose the thick texture. Pat the mix all over your body in the shower, then rinse with warm water.

The sugar scrubs dead skin cells and rejuvenates the skin, and the vitamins in the banana help maintain the skin’s elasticity. Give this scrub a try and let me know what you think! read more

Restaurant Review: Caffe Mondo

One of the restaurants I frequent is Caffe Mondo in Phoenicia Intercontinental. The last time I went there to have their famous salad bar, I was disappointed because the dishes were empty and no one cared to fill them with fresh food. So I decided to give it another chance the other day, except that when I scanned the salad bar, I did not find the grilled chicken breast that kept me coming each time. I am wondering why this has been removed, but I’m sure seafood lovers will be satisfied.

Must Have Items By The Time You Are 30

The world of fashion is ever changing, we buy clothes just to find out that the next season they are old news. We throw them out and buy some more. This might be the story in our teen years and even our 20s, but by the time a woman is 30, there are a few staple items that must be in her closet. These items are classic and survive the changes in trends, and hence are worth the splurge.

1. The Everyday Handbag:

This bag is durable and meant to be carried everyday. Buy this in a neutral, dark, or tan color, one that goes with almost all your clothes. Make sure that the material can be wiped down and that the stitching is well done. I recommend brands such as Longchamp, La Bagagerie, Tommy Hilfiger, and Michael Kors. These bags range from $100 to $300. read more

The Opening of Bernard Jabbour Fashion Room

On Wednesday June 11th, fashion designer Bernard Jabbour held a cocktail party to celebrate the opening of his fashion room in Ashrafieh, as part of the Beirut Design Week. The event drew in quite a crowd, in a laid back atmosphere of drinks, desserts and couture. Bernard chose to display 3 dresses of his creation, along with headpieces in an elegant setting. The designs are ultra feminine with a bit of a theatrical side. Enjoy the pictures below, and feel free to visit his fashion room in Charles Malek Avenue in Ashrafieh. read more

Dining at Burj Al Arab

A couple of years ago I went to Dubai, and one of the most memorable culinary activities (ever) was having lunch at Burj Al Arab. Although I cannot review the food in the same way I would have, had I been blogging back then, but my lifestyle section wouldn’t be complete without this exclusive experience. The lunch was at Al-Iwan, the Arabic buffet restaurant, I will share with you some of the pictures showing the food and atmosphere. Mind you, you cannot enter the Burj Al Arab area unless you are a hotel guest or are dining there, so these are photos you won’t see anywhere else! read more

Product Review: Chanel Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil

When it comes to my skin tone, I would say I am neither pale nor tan, which makes it hard for me to understand why I have fine and light eyebrows. When applying make up they tend to fade under the foundation, so I must fill them with an eyebrow pencil. I had previously tried more than one type of product, and I finally settled on Chanel Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil. I use number 30 Brun Naturel, it suits my natural hair color and doesn’t make my eyebrows pop out in an overpowering way.

This is the kit, it comes with a special Chanel sharpener. read more

I’m A Gipsy

One of the trends that I feel comfortable wearing is the boho-chic. I rummaged through my closet to mix pieces together to create this look. I had randomly bought a maxi floral skirt a while ago, and I chose to pair it with a t-shirt I have had for a few years that I never wear but I can’t seem to get rid of. Its loose fit and neutral color toned down the patterned skirt. I accessorized my outfit with a lace headband, dangle earrings (from my trip to Damascus about 10 years ago), a chunky beady necklace, a mix of bracelets and bangles, and rings. As you can see, I mixed and matched my accessories, some old some new, and a mix of bronze with silver to perfect the eclectic bohemian style. read more

Is This Taking A Trend Too Far?

Fashion designers present us with their collections each season. After the hype and media coverage is over, it’s up to us to decide what trend to adopt and what to ignore, though we may choose to totally disregard what is being shoved down our throat and stick to our own personal style.

When we see couture gowns, we know we may never get the chance to wear them; when we see creative out of this world designs, we most certainly won’t wear them unless we are stage actors. However a recent trend has been taking Hollywood by storm, and to me, it’s disgusting. It is the exposure of undergarments, and even nudity. read more

My Interview With Tara Sillery

I had the privilege to sit down for a lovely chat with owner of PR Passion (fashion PR company) and TV personality, Tara Sillery. She is independent, fierce, opinionated and gorgeous, and I have a major girl crush on her!

1. You were in banking, tell us how and why you shifted careers.

I was always obsessed with Fashion from a young age and used to drive my Mom and brother insane by raiding their wardrobes constantly! However, my life mantra is “everything happens for a reason” and my early career path steered me into the world of Investment Banking as opposed to Fashion. Working in a very male orientated environment gave me the strong personality I have today and when the time was right, and I was approached by a company in Dubai to head up their Corporate Communications I said goodbye banking…..hellloooooo fashion! That’s how it happened! read more
