Product Review: Makeup Forever’s Smoky Extravagant Mascara

I have mentioned previously here about my most recent experience of shopping in the U.S. and how I received a little sample kit from Sephora. One of the items included in this package is Makeup Forever’s mascara Smoky Extravagant.

I decided to give it a try a few nights ago to see what its all about. First of all it is smaller than the regular size since this isn’t for retail. The brush however is the same, and is thin at the tip for precision. Applying the mascara is super easy because of this and there is no risk in messing it up around the edges of the eyes. read more

A Ritual For Soft Hands

Who among us doesn’t suffer from dry flaky skin during the winter? It truly is a dilemma when the harsh cold weather strips the moisture from our skin, causing damage. Our hands in particular are constantly exposed, and if you want something a bit more efficient than lotion, give the following a try.

Last night I thought of pampering my hands in a little scrub I made up. Now I’m sure this exists somewhere and it isn’t an invention, but here’s what I did.

1. I got a plastic bowl and filled it up with hot tap water. read more

Cold Weather Shower Tip

In the cold weather we are all tempted to soak in a long hot bath or shower, but that is not a good idea for many reasons among which are the following:

First, the heat breaks down the skin lipid barriers which help the skin stay moisturized, making it dry and flaky.

Second, it causes the hair to be brittle, weak and easy to break.

Third, pores will open up and the skin will easily attract dirt to enter and causes acne.

The best solution is a lukewarm bath or shower. Its harder said than done, and I am reluctant to do so, but for beauty benefits lets do it! read more

DIY French Tip Nails

French tip nails are not impossible to do at home, and they are easier than they seem. On Sunday morning while chilling at home, I decided to give it a try. I have done this type of manicure before on my own but never with the Sally Hansen kit I had bought in the summer.

First I applied a base coat which is the hardener I always apply before painting my nails.

Next I used the White Tip across the tip of my nails in an arch form without the use of tape. I applied it twice before using the Sheer Romance also twice. read more

Makeup Is Overrated

In a world where too much importance is placed on outer shells, we tend to forget to embrace our own God-given beauty. Cosmetics is a booming billion dollar industry that won’t stop short of making girls feel bad about themselves and their looks to sell their products. How? By making us feel that we need to buy products so we look like the girls in the magazines, who incidentally don’t even look like that before the photo editing. While the occasional makeup is nice when we have an event to attend, it shouldn’t be what makes us feel better or pretty. There is nothing like natural beauty, why hide behind layers of foundation? Let’s allow our skin to breathe. Why apply mascara and eyeliner while our eyes can be just as charming? Why the lipliner and lipstick to reshape and increase the volume of our lips, when the way they are is harmonious for our face? read more

My Wedding Lipstick

Call me emotional, but I like to keep little reminders of important times in my life. And for that reason, on my wedding day, after I had finished with my make up appointment, I asked to purchase a brand new lip liner and lipstick in the same color that the beautician used on my lips. Not because I wanted to re-apply throughout my big day, but because I wanted to keep it as a souvenir. I do wear the shade from time to time, and I am happy that I chose to buy and save it. If your big day is coming up soon, I suggest you do the same, a little extra money will buy you a lifetime token. Can you imagine wearing the same shade at your 50th anniversary? read more

Home Remedy For Chapped Lips

Most of us suffer from chapped lips during the winter, but a lot aren’t immune to this even in the summer. Chapped lips are caused by weather conditions (cold or hot), an allergy, smoking, licking lips, dehydration or even vitamin deficiency. The end result is dry, flaky, and itchy lips. Don’t fret; there is a natural cure you can try at home.

The following technique will exfoliate the dead cells on your lips and will allow them to be soft. You will need 2 ingredients, sugar and honey.

1. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 2 teaspoons of sugar until they become a paste. read more

My Nail Polish Picks

The nail polish brand I’m obsessed with this season is Sally Hansen. Out of all the brands I find this one to have the most calm colors. Their shades are not too in your face, but more discretely charming. Take a look at my newest collection, along with the french manicure kit I thought I would try. I also use their nail hardener series as a base coat. This nail polish tends to last a week, it stays on fairly impeccable. I have tried 4 out of the 7 colors so far. D.I.Y. Body Scrub

If you don’t have a store bought body scrub, or simply want to try a natural one using household ingredients, it is easier than you think.

What you need is the following:

1 ripe banana

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix the ingredients in a bowl with a fork, but don’t allow them to lose the thick texture. Pat the mix all over your body in the shower, then rinse with warm water.

The sugar scrubs dead skin cells and rejuvenates the skin, and the vitamins in the banana help maintain the skin’s elasticity. Give this scrub a try and let me know what you think! read more
