My 2 Cents On 2 Years Of Blogging

Another blogging year has passed to make it my 2nd year anniversary, and here are some thoughts I jotted down, and if you think you might be offended, then please, read on.

I get asked by almost everyone I meet on how I’m able to find time to think of posts, write and attend events, my response is always that if you love something you will make time. Unlike how most describe me, no I am not a superwoman, I am just a woman who likes to keep her hands full while being well organized, a woman who is career oriented but more so family comes first, a woman who has many ambitions and aspirations and will not give up on them because of minor temporary hindrances. read more

A Bookworm’s World

I’m an avid reader and have been so since my early childhood. Reading takes me to another dimension and I’m sure many will agree with me. I do encourage you all to pick up a book of your style every once in a while, your imagination will grow and you get to have a temporary escape. With the availability of eBooks, it is even an easier and more accessible pass-time. Personally, no matter how busy my schedule is, I always find time to read on a daily basis at night to unwind, and my Kindle reader is my new best friend! read more

My 1 Year Blog Anniversary

April marks 1 year of blogging for me. When I created Style Me Maria, I allowed the online community to peer into my world. Whether it is through my blog, Facebook page, Pinterest, Snapchat, and my already in use Instagram and Twitter. My online persona is me, not hiding behind a mask of pretense, what you see is what you get. To me that is important and is the root of my character, I am very true to myself, I take pride in the fact that I don’t put on a front. Throughout this year I have brought to you my daily outfits, I showed you the practical side of style that is rare on social media platforms. Fashion isn’t something we do on an event basis, it is everyday, it is where we feel most comfortable, and myself as a mom and a working woman with a hectic schedule, comfort is luxury. I am in rare instances with makeup, I find it empowering that we all embrace our natural beauty, for God created us each unique, and I’m sure we as women have more to present to the world than beauty. I also shared intimate family moments, quotes and thoughts that are motivating, my love for good food and passion for travel. Having this presence has its perks as well as a downside. It gives me great satisfaction to positively influence my readers as well as having an outlet for myself to speak my mind. It also gave me the opportunity to attend countless events and meet influential people in fashion and media, as well as the chance to collaborate with a few shops and brands. At the same time I found that the blogging entourage is not always what it seems to be. Unfortunately many bloggers were not welcoming, in fear of changing the status quo, some even took the offensive strategy and tried to start online wars by mockery. I did make a few friends, they are the ones who not unlike me, are not afraid to speak their mind but do not cross lines while doing so. As for the rest, my friendly advances were not welcomed, and to them I would like to say, there is place for everyone, it is not a competition. read more

A Few Valentine’s Thoughts

Happy Valentine’s day dear friends.

All the recent hype leads to today. For many, this day is full of pressure, standards to be met, wishes to be made true. Except it shouldn’t be. You know how you hear someone say its a marketing trap and think that person must be cynical? Well its true. I’m a hopeless romantic and yet I agree with that statement.

What is this day then? Its a day to celebrate love. Pure love and not materialistic love. Love yourself first above everyone else, and once you learn how to do that, the love you give will be very powerful. If you are single, take this occasion to profess your love to your family and friends. If you are in a relationship, show your partner how much they mean to you by kind gestures, and by all means do them as often as you can and not only today. read more

My 100th Post

This post marks my 100th since I started blogging in April, so much in such a short time, which gives me a chance to reflect back on the topics I wrote about and share with you why I love it.

I love to read and get lost in imagination, its an escape. In my case, my passion for reading started at a young age and translated into writing. I used to write short stories when I was a little kid, and ever since I write down my thoughts in a journal. I used to illustrate those stories and draw flip books of fashion sketches as well as painted and did chalk drawings on the sidewalk. The love for creativity and freedom of expression both in writing and drawing were born with me and developed through the years. My hands are the link to my soul. read more
