One of the joys of the holidays is seeing little children around the Christmas tree opening up their gifts, and anyone with kids in their direct or extended family has experienced this fuzzy feeling. That being said, shopping for children can sometimes be hard, especially for those with little experience with kids. More often than not, gifts become redundant, like pink dresses for girls and blue pant suits for boys. For that reason, I compiled a list of gift ideas for babies and small children that I find functional and helpful for the winter season.
The 42nd American Music Awards were held on November 23, 2014. Like all award shows, the walk down the red carpet is anticipated by fashion lovers to see what the celebrities are wearing. Although I am critical by nature, I do respect each person’s style, so instead of naming my post ‘The Best And Worst Dressed’, I will list some of the memorable fashion moments whether good or bad.
Lets start with Fergie wearing Halston Heritage. The chic black is accentuated with the gold which goes perfectly well with her hair color and skin tone. The high slit in the dress is balanced by the high collar, not attracting attention to more than one area, and is mirrored by the side part of her hair. The metallic shoe straps match the gold dress embellishments perfectly.
I had recently purchased a pair of Skechers ‘On-The-Go’ from the States, and although I was about to walk out the store without them, I had hunch telling me to buy them and I’m glad I did.
I boast quite a large collection of shoes, especially sneakers, so I usually wear a different pair each day. But as soon as I put the Skechers on, I couldn’t take them off. Why? Because their soles are soft which make walking and standing super easy. At the end of my work week it struck me that I hadn’t taken these shoes off, and I thought I must share them with you! I spotted ones similar to them in Skechers City Center but they aren’t the same design, I hope they will be available in Lebanon soon, and I highly recommend you get a pair!
There are some trends I just can’t sit back and say nothing about, and this one in particular goes somewhere between my ‘Save or Splurge’ and ‘Pet Peeves’ category. After my recent Moschino rant here, comes the Givenchy sweater below.
Believe it or not, this cartoon sweater sells for $1,375. Now let me see, what can I buy for that amount of money? A laptop? A TV? A designer bag? A plane ticket?
What I don’t get is that its sold out on Net A Porter. Perhaps this sweater and the like have become the new generation of status symbols, or maybe in certain social circles its a must have item to show off in front of your frenemies. Either way, I beg you to keep your head screwed on and don’t go gaga over this item, especially with that steep price tag!
When it comes to romance, no one does it better than Oscar De La Renta. His designs have always been the epitome of femininity and sophistication. This season’s New York Fashion Week was nothing new, he served us classic Oscar. The beauty of his creations lies in their simplicity, and with the fact that the average woman can wear them, no crazy twists and turns. Below is a glimpse of a few dresses that caught my eye. Notice the way the fabric slims down at the waist and opens into a flattering A line skirt, you don’t have to be a supermodel to wear them!
You know how some day time outfits require some adjustment to be transformed into night time appropriate? You must either change your shoes, add or remove accessories, and so on and so forth. Summer makes all that easier, and most importantly color is accepted during the night.
I had no trouble deciding what to wear to attend a dinner, I chose a sheer canary yellow top with a magenta floral skirt. The next day I wore the same exact outfit to work, no adding or subtracting. The outfit was appropriate for both occasions, being both flirty and demure. Don’t you just love summer style?
New York Fashion Week started yesterday. What interests me at these types of events isn’t the trends on the runway, its the style outside on the streets. I chose New York to launch my ‘street styles’ section because I have been in love with this city ever since I visited it a few years back. This is the best place for eclectic, wacky personal style, so take a look at the photos below for some inspiration. Notice the mix in patterns, colors, and the chic with the sporty. These ladies have no style boundaries, and neither should you!
A couple or ten years ago, high-schoolers and university students were more humble in what they wore, opting to choose items that are age appropriate. Today in a fashion conscious visual world of social media, filters and hashtags, I can’t help but notice that too much of a good thing is actually bad.
The main issue here isn’t the savvy shoppers, its the young women trying too hard to look older. And that is being done via their handbag. The youngsters in this present day are carrying the Chanel Boy or Lady Dior.
A few days ago I walked past a few shops at a department store and did a double take. What seemingly innocent children’s t shirts were in fact graphic tees with skulls on them. They came in such small sizes, newborn or 3 months probably up to kid’s sizes.
Where do I begin my rant?
We now idolize symbols of death? We now make fashion out of them? Who on earth came up with this idea?
Hey, I know, lets print a skull and make an innocent baby wear it.
Why are we robbing our children of their innocence? Are rainbows, hearts, flowers, butterflies, animals, cartoon characters and other prints passee? Is this what we have come to?
Yesterday was my daughter’s 1st birthday. I am writing a personal post to tell you about my journey relating fashion to motherhood.
Pregnancy and childbirth are joyous but draining experiences. They leave you with a bundle of mixed emotions. Freedom and sleep seem a distant memory yet you are happy. You start to see things through a child’s eyes and everything has new meaning.
Our bodies drastically change, and to top it off, one day you are at home in your pjs enjoying your maternity leave, the next you are back to work and socializing when you find that nothing in your closet suits you anymore. It is at this time that we should embrace our bodies and accept them the way they have become.
